    variety

    Morocco.

    acreage
    of
    this
    variety
    in
    California. 
    The
    Madjool is a large fruit, about 2 inches long by 1 1/4 inches in diameter.  
      The surface is wrinkled and of bright bay to reddish brown in color.  
      The skin is thin and tender, the flesh is firm, meaty and nearly 3/8 inch 
      thick. brownish amber, translucent, with practically no fiber around the 
      seed.  The flavor is rich with characteristic taste for the variety.  
      This variety has been known commercially since the 17th century
