Comice
(Doyenne du Comice) Doyenne means dean and comice means show, or freely translated it means "best in the show".  The fruit is medium to large, sometimes very large, oval round, skin fairly thick, granular textured skin, sometimes russeted, greenish yellow in color, often blushed, very fine textured flesh, melting, extremely juicy, free of grit, sweet, rich, and aromatic.  Many regard this variety as the standard in dessert pears to compare all others to..  This variety is susceptible to blemishes and bruises easily when ripe. On the market October through March with very few available in January.
