Spider Crab

The name of several crabs that have long legs and chitinous hairs that give the crab a spider like appearance in fact the Japanese Spider crab can have a leg span of 13 feet across. The name is not marketed and the larger spider crabs are marketed as snow crab, tanner crab, and queen crab. The Spinous Spider Crab (Maia squinado) is used in classical Cuisine to prepare "araignee de mer".
