U.S. standards provide for one grade.

U.S. No.1  mature well cured. compact, with cloves well filled and fairly plump, free from mold, decay, shattered cloves, and from damage caused by dirt or staining, sunburn, cuts, sprouts, tops, disease, insects, or mechanical means.  Each bulb shall be enclosed in its sheath.  Unless otherwise specified each bulb shall not be less than 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
