Lue Gim Gong  originated in 1886 by Chinese horticulturist, Lue Gim Gong.  It was thought to be a hybrid of the Valencia and the Mediterranean Sweet, but it is suggested it is merely a nuclear seedling of the Valencia.  It was introduced by the Glen St. Mary Nurseries in 1912.
