The Hamlin was discovered in a grove
planted in 1879 near Glenwood, FL, which later became the possession of
A.G. Hamlin.  The grove  was planted by Isaac Stone for Mrs.
Mary H. Payne.  The value was recognized and following the great
freeze of 1894-95, it was extensively planted in the Deland section of
      Central Florida.
