2 tablespoons shortening 1 egg 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder l/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup milk 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup bran 1 cup flour

Cream the fat and sugar. Add the egg and beat well. Add the bran and milk. Let soak until most of the moisture disappears. Stir in the sifted dry ingredients. Grease the muffin tins; fill two thirds full. Bake in a moderately hot oven (400° F.) for: about 30 minutes. Yield: 8 large muffins.
